Welcome

Literacy lessons that support your child’s learning!

Why Let’s Read?

Let’s Read offers 1:1 reading instruction in a safe, caring environment. Our children’s brains are naturally wired for speech; they are not naturally wired to read. The reading process must be taught in a way that develops the “literacy muscles” in the brain. Learning to read is hard work!

Reasons a child might struggle with reading:

  • Difficulty with the ability to distinguish and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words

  • Difficulty sounding out written words(decoding) and recognizing familiar parts

  • Lack of instruction and understanding of spelling (encoding) generalizations

  • Receiving reading instruction that is not evidence-based, explicit, and systematic.

  • Receiving reading instruction that doesn’t meet an individual child’s needs

It can be worrisome and heartbreaking to watch a child struggle with reading. Children who are struggling may shut down, withdraw and lose interest in reading. Their struggle might also show up as behavior issues in the classroom or at home when asked to engage with reading activities.

The good news is...I can help!

Hello, my name is Lisa Karim

I am a California credentialed elementary teacher with a Master of Science in Reading and Literacy from CSU, East Bay. I am trained in the use of a structured literacy approach grounded in code-based, systematic, and explicit instruction.

I take a structured literacy teaching approach that uses explicit and systematic instruction for teaching a student to read. I teach my students that, along with a growth mindset, “practice makes progress”. I know a safe, caring environment and positive teacher-student relationship are paramount to learning. My goal is to help my students develop strong literacy skills and to see themselves as capable learners ~ finding joy in their learning!
